Rich in Resources - Flora - A Rare Arctic Poppy

Rare Arctic PoppyPhoto credit: John Burcham

Papaver radicatum, a rare Arctic poppy protects itself from the winds of an incoming storm with an insulating cover of fine, black hairs.   This extremely adaptive, heliotropic flower spins around all day long to face the sun, glowing like a light bulb to attract scarce insects to pollinate the plant during the brief Arctic summer.
