2006 Arctic Traverse: 50th Anniversary of the Murie Expedition
Setting out from Fairbanks, the anniversary expedition met with scientists at Toolik Research Station and Prudhoe Bay before heading into the refuge. In the refuge, they rafted the Canning River to the coastal plain that the oil companies seek to drill. They flew to Arctic Village to interview Gwich’in people about changes in their region and ended their journey exploring the refuge from the Last Lake campsite. |
